Today, FORTUNE announced its inaugural Change the World list , a ranking of 51 companies that have made an impact on major global social or environmental problems as part of their competitive strategy. Intel was recognized for its successful efforts to eliminate conflict minerals from its supply chain, which FORTUNE called, “an achievement many had thought impossible.” FORTUNE and FSG, a nonprofit social-impact consulting firm, vetted more than 200 nominees based on recommendations from business, academic, and nonprofit experts.
